Recordings of every call you mean to keep.
On-demand recording (press a key during the call) or always-on (per-user toggle, or company-wide on Team plans). Audio stored encrypted at rest with AES-256 in AWS US-East-1. Consent-aware disclosure prompt available for two-party-consent jurisdictions. Configurable retention from 30 days to 7 years on Team Pro for compliance use cases.
Call recording on Kelir.
Call recording captures the audio of an active phone call and stores it encrypted for later retrieval. The classic UCaaS feature — sales teams record demos for coaching, support teams record troubleshooting calls for QA, regulated industries record customer instructions for audit. Kelir ships call recording on every plan, with the same controls UCaaS competitors offer plus a few that matter for compliance-led workflows.
Three modes are available. On-demand: the user presses a key during the call to start (and again to stop) recording — useful when only specific calls need recording. Always-on per-user: recording starts automatically on every call from a specific user — useful for compliance roles where every call has to be recorded. Always-on company-wide: recording is mandatory for every user on every call — typical for fully-regulated workflows. The last two are configurable per user or company-wide from the admin portal on Team plans.
Storage is encrypted at rest with AES-256 using AWS KMS-managed keys, stored in AWS us-east-1 — US data residency, no offshore processing. Recordings are accessible from the Kelir mobile app (per-user) or the admin portal (per company). Download as MP3 for archival or evidentiary use; delete from the portal at any time within retention policy bounds.
Default retention is 1 year on Solo and Team Starter. On Team Pro, retention is configurable from 30 days to 7 years per the customer's compliance posture — useful for industries (healthcare, finance, legal) that require defined retention windows. Retention bounds apply uniformly: at expiry, recordings are auto-deleted from storage and cannot be retrieved.
Consent-aware disclosure is available as an opt-in feature. When enabled, a configurable prompt plays at the start of recorded calls ("This call may be recorded for quality and training purposes"). You're responsible for compliance with the laws of your state and your callers' states (one-party-consent vs two-party-consent jurisdictions vary across the US); Kelir provides the tooling, not legal advice.
Setup walkthrough.
Configured from Mobile app. The setup below assumes a working Kelir account and an active eSIM.
- 1
Open the Kelir mobile app and tap Settings → Call recording.
- 2
Pick a default mode: Off, On-demand, or Always-on. On-demand is the typical default — record only the calls you choose.
- 3
Configure the on-demand activation key — typically * during the call. The recipient hears a single tone (or the consent disclosure if enabled) when recording starts.
- 4
Toggle Consent disclosure on if you need it (recommended in two-party-consent states). Customize the disclosure text — TTS-spoken at the start of every recorded call.
- 5
Pick the retention window. Solo / Team Starter: 1 year fixed. Team Pro: 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, or 7 years (configurable per user or company-wide).
- 6
On Team plans, admins can configure company-wide policies from app.kelir.io — "all sales calls always-on", "all support calls always-on with consent disclosure", etc.
- 7
Recordings appear in the mobile app under Recordings, sorted by date. Tap to play, download, share by email, or delete (within retention policy bounds).
Where call recording earns its keep.
Sales coaching — demo recordings
Sales rep enables on-demand recording during product demos. Reviews calls with manager weekly for coaching. Recordings stored encrypted for retention period; deleted automatically after 90 days per Team Pro retention setting.
Customer support QA
Support team is always-on per-user. Manager reviews random sample weekly for quality check. Customer-flagged calls retained for the full retention window (1 year default); routine calls auto-delete after 90 days on Team Pro custom retention.
Compliance recording for regulated workflows
Financial-services advisory firm. Always-on company-wide with consent disclosure. Retention set to 7 years per industry regulation. Audit log on Team Pro tracks who downloaded each recording and when.
Two-party-consent state — California, Florida, etc.
Practice operates in California (two-party-consent state). Recording enabled with consent disclosure prompt. Caller hears the prompt before recording begins; can disconnect if they don't consent. Practice retains records as proof of consent.
Customer authorization confirmation
Customer leaves a voicemail or makes a call authorizing an account change. Recording captures the audio; transcript captures the text. Both retained for the configured period as proof of authorization.
The same feature.A real cellular line.
Call recording is a standard UCaaS feature. Differences sit in plan availability, encryption posture, retention configurability, and audit-trail depth.
- Recording is included on Kelir Solo single-seat — most softphone competitors gate recording behind a mid-tier or higher plan.
- Audio captured from a real cellular call (VoLTE), not from a softphone-VoIP-codec encoded stream — generally higher fidelity for transcription and clarity in playback.
- Encrypted at rest with AES-256, AWS KMS-managed keys, stored in AWS us-east-1 (US data residency).
- Configurable retention 30 days–7 years on Team Pro — meets common compliance requirements (HIPAA-aware, FINRA, etc.) without negotiation.
- Audit log on Team Pro tracks every download — who, when, from where — for compliance reviews.
- Consent disclosure prompt is configurable per user or company-wide; respects two-party-consent jurisdiction requirements.
- Bulk recording (always-on company-wide) is on Team Starter and Team Pro — competitors often gate this behind their enterprise tier.
Common questions
Yes. On-demand and always-on per-user recording are included on Kelir Solo at $24.99/mo. Default retention is 1 year. Company-wide always-on is a Team-plan feature (because it requires multi-user policy enforcement).
Recordings are stored encrypted (AES-256 with AWS KMS-managed keys) in AWS us-east-1 — US data residency, no offshore processing. Per-user recordings are accessible to that user via the mobile app; on Team plans, admins can access recordings across the team via the admin portal subject to role-based access controls. Audit log on Team Pro tracks every download.
Default retention is 1 year on Solo and Team Starter. On Team Pro, retention is configurable from 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, or 7 years per user or company-wide. At expiry, recordings are auto-deleted and cannot be recovered.
Only if you enable the consent disclosure prompt. By default, on-demand recording plays a single tone when started (audible to both parties); the consent disclosure plays a TTS-spoken or audio-uploaded prompt before recording starts. Customize the prompt text in the mobile app.
It depends on the state. The US has a mix of one-party-consent (recording is legal if one party — you — consents) and two-party-consent / all-party-consent states (every party must consent). When the caller and you are in different states, the stricter standard often applies. Consult your legal counsel; Kelir provides the disclosure prompt as a tool but cannot give legal advice. Two-party-consent states as of 2026: CA, CT, DE, FL, IL, MD, MA, MT, NH, NJ, OR, PA, WA — verify current law before relying on this list.
Yes. From the mobile app or admin portal, tap Download to get an MP3 file. Useful for archival, evidentiary, or post-call review use cases. Downloads are logged on Team Pro for audit.
